Pigtails

For a while I sort of ignored the fact that Piper's hair was getting long. It's curly at the bottom so most days I would wet it and push it back. It started looking pretty messy so I went and bought a bunch of hair things. She looks so cute in pigtails, unfortunately though she takes them out after about three minutes. There are currently about 84 of her little hair bands strewed on the floors in our house.

Winter Beach

This weekend we also got to go to the Outer Banks. It was a little cool, but so nice to be on the sand. Pipes and I took advantage of the sun to have a little rest.

Asher brought his trains and pushed them around in the sand for most of the day.

We collected a couple shell pieces which Asher has decided to carry with him everywhere. We went out for pizza yesterday and he had to bring all of them and put them on the table.

Winter Zoo

Nate came home last week and it's been great. The kids love having him around. The weather was really nice this weekend and we went to the zoo on Friday. You will notice there are no animal pictures here. That is mainly because although my kids love the zoo they really don't care to look at the animals all that much. Asher's favorite activity is pushing the stroller.
We went up with some friends and they have twins Asher's age. He loves playing with them.

Piper walked around a bit, and then took advantage of the stroller option. Her favorite animal of the day was a turkey. I think it was because it was the closest thing to a rooster there (still her current obsession). Asher enjoyed the giraffes. I enjoyed the fact that we went to Cracker Barrel afterwords.

Helping out

Our church has been partnering with the local crisis pregnancy center for the last couple of years. Once a year they do a baby bottle drive. Families take home baby bottles and fill them with change. Each bottle has a baby to pray for. All the money goes towards the center and helping local women and the kids. This week both kids took money out of their piggy banks to fill our little bottle. They both enjoyed filling it and Asher sort of understood why we were doing it. Serving is a hard concept to teach, but we want to teach him now how to be generous.

Candy Candy Candy

Asher quotes of the day:

Asher: Mommy you are hurting me
Mommy: How am I hurting you?
Asher: I want candy and you said no...it hurts

10 minutes later

Asher: Mommy no spankings no spankings no spankings
Mommy: Asher what did you do?
Asher: I did not eat candy

Valentines Day

Growing up Valentine's Day was always special. My mom would have a special breakfast and small treats. I really want to continue that with our kids. Nate is still gone, but I decided to have a great day. We invited a few of Asher's friends over for brunch. It was fun, but he got so hyper from the cupcakes and all the juice boxes he kept sneaking. One of his friends went to use the bathroom. Asher snuck in and decided to go at the same time and accidentally peed on him. Needless to say neither his friend or his mom appreciated it. It's such a strange feeling when you are embarrassedby your kids.By seven this evening all the sugar began taking its toll. Asher crashed pretty hard.

So very sick

About a week and a half ago sickness entered our house. It conveniently waited until Nate was away on a business trip. Piper had been up all night with a cough. She woke up with no fever and was pleasant. Our doctors office doesn't make appointments for sick visits, it's only walk-ins. I didn't want to cancel Asher's speech therapy session so I thought we'd go afterwords. That was a huge mistake. We ended up being in the waiting room for 3 hours before we even got called back. There was only one chair for me, my big belly, and both kids. After the first 2 hours we were out of all snacks and distraction ideas. I literally promised Asher anything he wanted from Walmart and all the snacks he could eat later if he would just be a little more patient. When we saw the doctor we found out Piper has RSV and bronciolitis. She was given a prescription for an inhaler and the news it would take about 2 weeks to completely recover. About a day and a half later Asher and I came down with some version of what she got. I had a fever for three days and Ashman was just miserable. We are all past the worst, but are still coughing and feeling a little yucky. On the plus side I think I now have Toy Story 3 memorized since it's been on a constant loop for the last week.

Mornings

Up until last year at Day Light Savings time Asher and Piper both slept until about 7:30 or 8. It was wonderful, I got plenty of sleep and a morning shower. As soon as we moved the clocks back Asher started waking up around 5:30. It was awful on so many levels. He also stopped napping so by 3 he was one miserable kid. He would wake up and come into our room always needing something. He was potty trained at this time, but would always poop in his pull-up first thing in the morning. He eventually started waking up a little bit later, but by 6:15 or 6:30 always came in needing to be changed out of his pull-up. Last week when Nate left for his trip I decided this will change. There is no way I am changing three poopy diapers every morning. We have learned with Asher that he will do almost anything if he is bribed. I told him last week that if he woke up in the morning, took his pull-up off and didn't poop in it he would get a treat. Since then he has only had one accident. Most days I just give him a few M&M's and he's happy. When I started this he also stopped coming in my room. He will wake up and I'll come out around 7:15 and he will be watching a movie. This guy knows his way around electronics. Today I came out a little bit early. He was watching Toy Story and helped himself to a juice box and a snack. I'm not sure how I feel about all of this, but not having to get up at 6:15 is amazing.

Body Parts

Asher has always enjoyed learning the parts of the body. He likes to stick his tongue out and he'll put his feet all over you. Nate and I want to answer all of his questions truthfully and it has led to some comical situations. Luckily we have gotten past the point where he asks all the custumers in Walmart if they have a penis. About a month or two ago he started asking where his food goes. I told him he chews it with his teeth and it goes down into his stomach. He was satisfied with that for a while. A few weeks ago he kept telling me about all the food that was in his stomach. I explained to him that food only stays in his stomach for a little bit. Of course he asked what happens to it next. I told him that it goes through his intestines and he poops it out. Of course he loved that. Now every time he eats he tells me about how it's going to become poop and end up in the potty. I'm sure his teachers at preschool really love that.

Making Valentines

Today Asher and I made Valentines. He has a party at school this week and I found a cute idea online. He didn't want to hold it himself, which is ok considering I did 99% of the work. We don't have our camera so I just had the laptop take the pictures. The writing is backwards, but it says "Brody, You Rule". Asher had much more fun cutting up paper with scissors (his newest obsession).

Cribs are for sleeping...I mean playing

Piper loves to play in her crib. Both her and Asher will go in together. It usually doesn't last too long because one of them tends to be aggressive and the other is sensitive. Piper has a little table that she reaches from her crib. I love listening to her play.

You can also see that we recently painted this room. I can't really take any credit for it. On Nate's last trip a few guys from church came and painted it for me. Piper will move into Asher's room soon and this will be the baby's room. My C-section was scheduled for March 30th! Less than 8 weeks now.

Asher Basher

My little Ash man is almost three and a half. He literally jumps out of bed every day and starts running. He never stops. We started him at a new speech therapist a few months ago and it's made a big difference. The things he says just crack me up. He has quite the imagination and has started making up stories. The other day I came in the house and Nate was getting the kids breakfast. Asher looked at me and said "Daddy is bad" I asked why and he replied "Daddy pooped in his underpants". Nate of course didn't, Asher just made it up. He still loves cars and anything with wheels on it. He recently got a new bed and thinks it's the greatest thing. He has to have all his stuffed animals (who he calls The Guys) and his blankets every night. Asher has a lot of friends and nothing makes him happier than playing with them. He has done so well in preschool this year and he will definitely go again next year. When I was pregnant with Piper he was too young to understand what was going on, but he really gets it this time. He loves to kiss my belly and asks a lot when the baby is coming. Lately he has been saying "I want two babies". I'm so anxious to see how he will do with this addition to our family.

Piperella

Nate is currently away in Louisiana and he has the camera. I figured I can take this time to give you all an update on my little Piper. She is 19 months now, still really sweet with a bit of sassiness mixed in. Her favorite animal is a rooster and she goes around all day saying "cock-a-doodle-do". Her current obsession is bananas and she demands at least three a day. She tends to be a bit picky and flat out refuses vegetables on most days. Piper is very social and loves to say hi to every single person in walmart. Her feelings get hurt when she is ignored. Being around other kids is her favorite thing to do during the day. She also loves babies and comes up to me a few times a day to lift up my shirt and pat the baby. I think she's going to be a great big sister. I'll try to get some more updates later on this week.
