Down on the Farm

A friend of mine started a local group for kids. Every month there are activities where the kids learn about their community and do volunteer work. Last week we met at a local farm and the farmer talked to the kids about his farm and what they grow.

Piper really loved the stalks of soy beans.
She spent a while taking all the beans out.
Dex was very happy with all the space.
We got to see all the machinery as well.
Dex was way more interested in the rocks.
Ash and Pipes got to climb in the combine harvester. They both would like us to buy one now.
It was a really fun day and I'm looking forward to more activities.

Good new and bad news

Asher has started coming up to us a lot and saying "I have good news and bad news."

Last night we were at a Halloween party and he went outside with some of the kids. He announced "Guys I have good new and bad news. The bad news is that tree is about the fall down. The good news is we have candy".

I have no idea where this expression came from.

This morning he came down for breakfast and said to Nate "I have good news and bad news. The bad news is there is no good news."

Conversations with Asher

A few days ago while driving to school Asher and I had the following conversation:

Asher: "Mom do you know that God lives next to my school?"

I wasn't exactly sure what he was talking about so I replied "Yea.... God is everywhere".

Asher: "No Mom, he lives next to my school, it's his house".

I slowly started to understand what was happening. They have chapel time once a week, where they go next door to the sanctuary. I'm guessing someone referred to it as God's house.

I spent the next few minutes fumbling with an explanation about how some people call church God's house, because that's where we worship him. He didn't buy it.

Asher: "Mom, God lives there, it's his house. He sleeps there too."

Dexter's Daily Activities

Dex would like to apologize for his lack of blogging lately. He has a list of things he needs to get done every day and doesn't have the time for much else. The first thing on his agenda is taking all the the shoes and putting them on the stairs.
He also has to empty all the cabinets in the kitchen. Notice he makes sure to have his blankie and bear with him.
He loves hiding in the cabinet with a few items. I now refer to this particular cabinet as the pooping cabinet. I'll let you guess why.

Southern Autumn

This time of year I miss Pennsylvania. I love the colors and the leaves. We really don't get that here. One part of fall that I do love here is the cotton. Seeing it still surprises me. It's so white and fluffy. Today was a great day for being outside, so the kids and I took a bike ride over to a cotton field.

Dex was quite grumpy and not in the mood for a photo shoot.
Asher as usual was just too busy running to stand still for very long.
Someday I will manage to get a good shot of them all together...maybe when they are in the twenties.
Piper really wanted me to take a picture of her new boots. She loves the change of seasons since it means a new wardrobe.

Silly Girl

Piper you are so silly. When she comes down the stairs it is always a surprise. Usually she is sporting my heels, but every once in a while she changes it up and wears some boots.
Just about every morning she comes in my room to wake me up. She gives me a kiss and a hug and says "Mommy wake up, it's your lovely day". She is right, it is a lovely day.

Monet

My kids love getting things in the mail, especially packages. A few months ago one of the blogs I read talked about Babba Boxes. I paid for a three month subscriptions and every month a package comes in the mail. Each month has a different theme. This month was art. There are a few different activities in the box. Oil pastels and a canvas were included as one activity. Asher had a lot of fun coloring and then smearing the pastels around.

Piper always loves the books that come in the box. It was fun teaching them about Monet and the different art styles.
I like Asher's masterpiece.

Mt. Trashmore

On Saturday after the much needed haircuts we spent the rest of the day in Virginia. Asher and Piper are so easy when Dex isn't around. We went shopping, and out to eat. On the way back we decided to stop at Mt. Trashmore park. Seriously, that is the worst name for a park.
Piper is fearless. She will climb anything and she is always doing what the big kids do.

I have a feeling my little ballerina may actually be a gymnast.
Asher went right to the rocks. He spent the entire time climbing up and down.
I didn't even notice Piper climbing this one until she was at the top.

They actually really enjoyed the day together. That doesn't happen too often.

Piper the hairstylist

Saturday morning when I came downstairs to make breakfast this is what I found.
There were piles of Piper's hair all over the kitchen. Ever since I got my hair cut she has wanted one as well. Apparently she thought she would take matters into her own hands.
You can't tell in the picture, but she cut a lot off and it was pretty wonky looking.

After Asher's soccer game I drove them straight up to Virginia for hair cuts. The stylist was able to get her hair looking much better. Her sideburns are still really short, luckily having curly hair really helps.
Oh Piper, you always keep me on my toes.
