I have a confession to make to y'all. I love Valentine's Day. It is actually my favorite holiday. One of my earliest memories is waking up as kid on Valentine's Day to special balloons. My mom continued this tradition (as well as adding donuts) until we left the house. When I was in high school we could buy carnations for each other and the student council would hand them out throughout the day. In college I remember dressing up and going out with the girls for a fancy dinner.
I was pregnant with Asher during our first Valentine's Day being married. I was horribly sick at the time, and was working full time. Nate took a half day at work and came home and cleaned the entire house and bought vases of flowers. He also planned a special dinner.
Now that we have kids it is even more fun for me. I continued the balloon tradition, and this year I woke up early to make a special breakfast for them.
Leah and I decided to trade off kid watching so we could each celebrate. They took our kids overnight last night (this was a surprise for Nate). We love cooking together, and haven't gotten to do it much lately. We made a prime rib, fries, and roasted green beans. For dessert I made a Bailey's Irish Creme Cheesecake. It was awesome.
I got to go to all the kids' school parties and spend time with them throughout the day. It was fun and special. I'm surrounded by so many people I love and I couldn't be more thankful.
sounds like a great day! maybe you should start posting recipes!
ReplyDeletesounds absolutely wonderful and like fairy land. my kids were always away for valentines day and therefore no traditions. the food looks scrumsh-diddley-umptious. Dad got me some flowers which contained daisy's because our wedding flower was daisies. You all are products of God's grace and our love, as all our kids and families.
ReplyDeleteAlly, the cheese cake looks fabulous. I can't believe you had the energy to do the dinner, etc. after such a busy day with the kids! Glad it turned out to be a wonderful day!
