Snow Day

This has been a crazy December in NC. We usually have really nice weather, but the last two weeks have been freezing and today we got some snow. My little southern boy is actually a northern boy at heart. He would much rather get bundled up and play in the snow then go to the beach.
Piper isn't a huge fan of anything cold, but she does like the cold weather accessories.

Christmas Party

Tonight we went to a Christmas party that a friend had. There were a lot of kids running around, but they all had fun. The kids decorated cookies, Asher loved dumping the sprinkles on his.
He also loved eating it.
Piper played with toys most of the night and tried to avoid getting run over by the big kids.
Towards the end of the night Santa made an appearance. Asher was very excited about this, especially since he brought candy.
Piper, well she didn't really like Santa.
Asher on the other hand enjoyed getting to tell someone everything that he wanted. Santa asked him what he wanted for Christmas and Asher said very loudly "Presents".

Baby update

We had our doctor's appointment with the specialist today and everything looks great. The cysts are still there, but there are no other indications of other problems. We are very relieved. I can continue to see my regular doctor for the rest of the pregnancy.

In other news Asher discovered the ability to ask Why. This was my breakfast conversation with him this morning:

Me: Asher let's get breakfast
Asher: Why?
Me: Because we are hungry
Asher: Why?
Me: Because we haven't eaten since last night
Asher: Why?
Me: Because we were sleeping
Asher: Why?
Me: We just were
Asher: I want pancakes
Me: Ok, I'll make pancakes
Asher: Why?
Me: Because you asked for them
Asher: Why?
Me: Ugghhh
Asher: attitude Mommy, attitude

Gobble Gobble

I know I am late in posting about Thanksgiving. My class ends in a week and hopefully I'll post more frequently when it is finished. We had a really good Thanksgiving. We travel up to PA for some holidays, but this is one that we do at home with friends. It was a really warm day which the kids loved. We had breakfast at our house with some friends and went to another friends for dinner.
It is next to impossible to get a good shot of these two together. I'm not even going to try when the next one comes.
Piper didn't care about the food, she was just happy she got a new dress.
All the kids sat at one table to eat. Asher had a cracker and about 17 cookies. He had such a fun time running around with all the kids. And they were literally running around the entire time.

We are so grateful for the friends we have made down here. They truly have become our family.

Baby # 3 update

I always talk about Asher and Piper, but there is another squirt I need to mention. Today I had my 20 week ultrasound. We got some good shots of the baby. Nate and I decided we aren't finding out what we are having this time, and I was ok with that until we got to the appointment. If any of you know me at all you know that I tend to be a bit of a planner and a teensy bit impatient. It was really hard for me to resist today.

During the ultrasound they noticed that there are cysts on the baby's brain. Usually they go away on their own, but my doctor wants me to see someone at the high risk pregnancy center. I've had a pretty emotional day because of this. I'm trying not to imagine the worst, but it's really hard not too. I will keep you all updated. I probably won't get to see that doctor for at least a week or two. Since it's 8 PM now I need to go to bed to be prepared for Asher's 5:30 wake up call.

Asher quotes

Asher came into my room this morning once again asking for candy. I told him he knows he can't have any candy until after dinner. He responded "Can I have dinner now?"

While looking for Piper this morning he ran around the house saying "Where my Piper is?"

After talking to him about the new baby he responded "I do not want two Pipers".

Sneaky Piper

Both of the kids love to hide things. The difference between them is that Asher can never find anything, and Piper remembers exactly where she put things. Neither of the kids liked binkys as babies. I tried a few times and gave up. I guess we have a few floating around the house still. Piper hides them and every once in a while when she needs some alone time she gets one out and sits in the bumbo chair (which she hasn't really used since she was 7 months old). It always cracks me up when I go in her room and find her like this.

Halloween

Last weekend was Halloween and the kids loved getting dressed up. On saturday we took them to a friend's house for a party. Asher was a fireman and was so excited that he could wear his rain boots. He wants to wear them everyday now.
Piper was a little ladybug.
This was the first party that had a pinata. Asher wasn't too impressed until the candy fell out.

Halloween was on a sunday so Nate left early for worship team practice. As soon as Asher awoke he started asking for candy. I'll spare you the details but it didn't end well for either of us. Every morning now Asher usually wakes up before me and comes into our room. Some days he gently taps me and whispers "Mommy I neeeeed candy". Other days he just takes his train whistle and blows it in my ear.

Pumpkin Picking

Last Sunday we went to a farm in our area. It's obvious that Asher and Piper have a mixture of Nate's and my personalities. One part that is clearly from me is their need to be around friends constantly. Asher asks every day what friends he can see. They both had fun riding with their friends on the hay ride.
The first place the hayride took us to was a corn maze. It was a little beaten down since we have had so much rain lately. Asher loved running through it.
Piper was a little pokey so we were the only ones who didn't make it to the flag.
The next part of the hayride took us to the pumpkin patch. We had to convince Asher that he didn't really want to rotten ones.

After we got home Nate and Asher were both so tired they fell asleep on the couch.

Fall Beach Day

Last weekend we had a beach day. October is always our favorite month to go to the beach. It's nice weather and there are no tourists. Piper had a lot of fun playing around in the sand.

Asher loved chasing the waves with Nate. The water is still pretty warm and they had fun getting their feet wet. Someone in the family (I won't say who) loves to eat at Five Guys Burgers, so that's where we always eat lunch when we come to the beach.

New Friends

Lately Asher and Piper have both been receiving new attention. Last night I had a youth leaders meeting and Piper came with me. Our youth pastor has three boys and they all love Piper. The oldest drew this picture of Piper and I thought it was so cute. Asher's preschool teachers also informed me that he is quite popular with some of the little girls in his class. There is one girl in particular who wants to sit next to Asher every day. Her mom informed me that every day she begins her stories with "My best friend Asher". It's so much fun to watch my kids' interactions with their friends.

Rainy Days

We had a lot of rainy days this week. Piper didn't mind so much and started each day by making phone calls.
On Thursday I had to tell Asher that school was cancelled. He did not take the news well. I had to be creative, so we decided to make a fort. He loved it, and spent the morning playing inside it. He also instilled a no pants rule in the fort.
Piper had fun crawling around inside as well.

Asher's 3rd Birthday Party

A few weeks ago we had Asher's birthday party. He is obsessed with the movie Cars, so we had a Cars party. The food station was Flo's V8 cafe. I made a fruit pizza, which was a big hit.
I made all the kids their own driver's license, which they picked up at the Sheriff's Station.
At the Tow-Mater Station the kids could tow out cars.
At Ramon's House of Paint all the kids picked their own car and painted it.
Piper had a fun time walking around.
Asher was very thrilled with the unlimited juice box rule of the day.

Asher had such a good time with all his friends.

Preschool

Asher is now in preschool and he loves it. He feels so grown up wearing his backpack. He still insists on sleeping with it at night. He is doing really well, and his teachers say he listens and has a lot of fun. They also mentioned that Asher never forgets to remind them about snack time. I really hope that he will continue loving school.

So behind

I have all these wonderful posts to put up, but am a little overwhelmed right now. I am throwing up constantly. Any spare energy I have I am putting towards the kids (who are currently living off PB sandwiches because I can't stand the smell of anything else), tutoring, and this grad class that is sucking the life out of me. I will try to do a real post soon.

Asher is 3

My little guys is three now. His birthday was on Saturday and we started the day by heading up to the zoo. It was really hot so we didn't look at all the animals this time.
Asher of course wanted to spend the day pushing the stroller. Piper enjoyed looking at some of the animals but really wanted to show off her walking skills.
At the front of the zoo there are a bunch of fountains. Asher stripped down to his undies and had a blast running around. Piper really enjoyed the freedom as well.

We went out to lunch and the kids finished the day by going to the park with Nate after dinner. I can't believe Asher is three now. He amazes me every day. He is so outgoing and loves to try new things. He is so smart and has a fantastic memory. It is truly an honor to be his mom. I love him more than I thought was possible. I'm so excited to see what the next year will bring for him.
